Refrigerator Bread and Butter Pickle Chips

Crunchy, tangy, and sweet cucumber slices, perfect for enhancing any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium cucumbers, sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon onion flakes
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the sliced cucumbers, onions, and salt in a large bowl. Cover and let them sit for about one hour.
  2. Prepare the pickling liquid: In a saucepan, mix the sugar, vinegar, mustard seeds, celery seeds, and onion flakes. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  3. Cool the pickling liquid slightly to prevent cooking the cucumbers.
  4. Pack the drained cucumbers and onions tightly into clean, sterilized jars.
  5. Pour the cooled pickling liquid over the cucumbers, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  6. Seal the jars tightly and refrigerate for at least two hours before enjoying.
