Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars

Deliciously festive sugar cookie bars topped with creamy frosting and vibrant sprinkles, perfect for celebrations.

  • 1 stick (½ cup) salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup patriotic sprinkles
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 stick (½ cup) salted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 tbsp cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • Extra red, white, and blue sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by greasing it with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla, blending until well combined.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, baking powder, and patriotic sprinkles.
  6. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cookie bars completely before frosting.
  10. Prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together powdered sugar, butter, cream cheese, vanilla, and milk until smooth and fluffy.
  11. Spread the frosting over the cooled cookie bars and decorate with extra sprinkles.
  12. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute plant-based butter and use aquafaba (chickpea brine) instead of the egg.
