Juicy Steak Kebabs with Savory Marinade

Tender steak kebabs marinated in a flavorful blend of savory ingredients, grilled to perfection with vibrant vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 0.25 cup Olive Oil (can substitute with canola or avocado oil)
  • 0.25 cup Soy Sauce (use tamari for a gluten-free option)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice (lime juice can also work well)
  • 2 tablespoons Red Wine Vinegar (alternative options: white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (opt for a vegan version if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon Honey (maple syrup or agave nectar serve as vegan substitutes)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard (yellow mustard can be used in a pinch)
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic (garlic powder is a good alternative for dried flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper (pre-ground may also be used)
  • 1.5 pounds Sirloin Steak (cut into inch pieces; ribeye or flank steak can be suitable)
  • 2 cups Button or Cremini Mushrooms (halve or leave whole; zucchini cubes can substitute)
  • 2 cups Bell Peppers (opt for varied colors as they bring sweetness; zucchini or cherry tomatoes work too)
  • 1 large Red Onion (diced into 1¼-inch chunks; sweet onions or shallots are also excellent)
  • to taste Salt (essential for basic seasoning)
  • to taste Pepper (adjust for your personal taste)
  • optional Garlic Powder (adding more minced garlic enhances flavor potency)
  • as needed pieces Wooden Skewers (soaked in water to prevent burning)

Instructions

  1. Create the Marinade: In a sizeable mixing bowl, combine olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, freshly ground black pepper, and a touch of salt and pepper. Whisk well until fully blended.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Add the sirloin steak pieces to the marinade, ensuring each piece gets a good coating. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, but ideally for 2 to 4 hours.
  3. Prepare Vegetables: While the steak marinates, chop the mushrooms, bell peppers, and red onion into even-sized pieces for uniform cooking.
  4. Assemble the Kebabs: Once the marinating time has elapsed, take the meat out of the refrigerator. Thread the sirloin pieces alternately with the vegetables onto soaked skewers.
  5. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high. A properly preheated grill ensures a mouthwatering sear and grill marks.
  6. Grill the Kebabs: Place your assembled kebabs on the hot grill. Cook for approximately 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the steak reaches your desired doneness.
  7. Serve & Enjoy: Remove the kebabs from the grill and allow them to rest for about 5 minutes. Serve hot, perhaps with a sprinkle of fresh herbs.

Notes

Make the marinade a day before for optimal flavor. Customize by adding spices or using different vegetables.
