Easy Sloppy Joes with Bread

Hearty sloppy joes tucked inside a crusty French loaf, blending savory beef with sweet barbecue sauce for a nostalgic comfort meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 crusty French loaf

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: In your large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary, leaving just a bit for flavor.
  2. Sauté the onion: Toss in the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent and fragrant, mingling beautifully with the beef.
  3. Mix in sauces: Stir in the ketchup, barbecue sauce, and garlic powder. Reduce heat to low, allowing the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Prepare the bread: Preheat your oven’s broiler. Slice your French loaf in half lengthwise and place it cut-side up on a baking sheet. Toast it lightly under the broiler for about 3-4 minutes until golden.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches: Spoon the warm beef mixture generously onto the toasted bread. Add a sprinkle of cheese if desired, then place it back under the broiler for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Take the sandwiches out, slice them into portions, and watch as everyone dives in, ready to devour these delicious creations.

Notes

These sloppy joes can also be made ahead of time and reheated before serving. Feel free to customize with additional toppings.
