Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry

A colorful and flavorful Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry that combines tender chicken with crisp vegetables and a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound chicken breast, diced
  • 2 cups cabbage, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (optional)
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Begin by marinating the diced chicken. Combine 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper in a bowl.
  2. Toss the chicken in this mixture and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. While the chicken marinates, prepare the sauce by whisking together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), black pepper, salt, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), and the cornstarch slurry in a separate bowl.
  4. In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  5. Add the marinated chicken, cooking until golden brown and cooked through—about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  7. Add sliced onions and minced garlic to the same skillet. Sauté until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  8. Toss in the chopped cabbage, bell pepper, and julienned carrot. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are tender yet retain their crunch.
  9. Return the chicken to the skillet.
  10. Pour in the prepared sauce, gently stirring to coat everything.
  11. Cook until heated through and the sauce thickens, around 2-3 minutes.
  12. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve.
