California Roll Sushi Bowl

A delightful sushi bowl containing all the flavors of a California roll, featuring seasoned sushi rice, fresh vegetables, and imitation crab.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 lb imitation crab meat, shredded
  • Soy sauce, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Nori sheets, cut into strips

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until water runs clear.
  2. Combine rinsed rice with water in a pot; bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes to steam.
  5. Whisk together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until dissolved.
  6. Stir the vinegar mixture into the cooked rice and let it cool slightly.
  7. Scoop a portion of the seasoned rice into serving bowls.
  8. Layer on the sliced cucumber, avocado, and shredded imitation crab.
  9. Drizzle with soy sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds and nori strips.

Notes

For a spicy kick, incorporate sriracha into your soy sauce or the rice vinegar mixture.
