Homemade Bread and Butter Pickles

Delicious homemade bread and butter pickles that balance sweetness and tanginess, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cucumbers, sliced
  • 1 medium sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pickling spices
  • 1 tablespoon kosher or pickling salt

Instructions

  1. Prep your cucumbers and onions by slicing them and combining them with salt. Let sit for 1-2 hours.
  2. Make the brine by heating the vinegar, sugar, and pickling spices until sugar dissolves.
  3. Pack the cucumber and onion mixture tightly into sterilized jars.
  4. Pour the warm brine over the packed vegetables, leaving a ½ inch headspace.
  5. Seal the jars and let them cool to room temperature before refrigerating.

Notes

These pickles can last up to two months in the refrigerator. Experiment with spices for customization.
