  • 4 slices of bread (challah, brioche, or sourdough)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  2. Heat the pan: Preheat a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter and let it melt.
  3. Dip and coat: Take your bread slices and dip them into the batter, coating both sides before placing in the hot pan.
  4. Cook to perfection: Cook each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden-brown.
  5. Keep warm: Transfer to a warm platter and cover to keep warm while you finish the remaining slices.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture. Make-ahead batter can be stored in the fridge for a quick breakfast.
