- 4 cups apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup apple cider
- In a large pot, combine the chopped apples and apple cider. Cook over medium heat until the apples are soft.
- Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, vanilla extract, sea salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the pot.
- Stir the mixture until the sugars dissolve and the butter melts.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth.
- Continue to cook for an additional 15-20 minutes until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency.
- Pour the apple butter into sterilized jars and seal them while hot.
Notes
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- This apple butter can also be canned for longer storage.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your taste.
