Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake

A decadent chocolate cake layered with creamy peanut butter and topped with chocolate chips and peanuts.

  • 1 chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix the peanut butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the first layer of chocolate batter.
  6. Cover with the remaining chocolate batter.
  7. Gently swirl the batters together with a knife.
  8. Top with chocolate chips and chopped peanuts.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  10. Cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can substitute melted butter for vegetable oil. Make-ahead tip: prepare the batter a day in advance and refrigerate.
