Mini Bloomin’ Onions with Buttermilk Ranch Dip

Delightful crispy mini bloomin’ onions served with a creamy buttermilk ranch dip.

  • 4 small onions, preferably sweet
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Slice the tops off the onions and carefully peel off the outer skin.
  2. Cut each onion into quarters, ensuring not to slice all the way through the center.
  3. Soak the onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
  5. Heat the oil in your deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Coat the soaked onions in the flour mixture.
  7. Fry the onions for approximately 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Combine mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, chives, and lemon juice for the ranch dip.
  9. Serve the warm bloomin’ onions with the ranch dip.

Notes

Making ahead is possible; prep everything in advance and assemble before serving for best results.
