  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
  7. Place the loaf on a baking sheet and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  9. Make a few slashes on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
