Crème Brûlée French Toast

A decadent twist on classic French toast, featuring a rich custard base and a caramelized sugar crust for a luxurious breakfast experience.

  • 6 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional granulated sugar for caramelizing
  • Butter for greasing

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  2. Generously grease your baking dish with butter.
  3. Arrange the slices of bread snugly within the dish.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or ideally overnight.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake uncovered for about 30-35 minutes.
  8. Allow your baked French toast to cool slightly before sprinkling sugar on top.
  9. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture and soak overnight for maximum flavor.
