  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 4 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  4. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into rectangles.
  6. Place apple mixture on one half of each rectangle, fold over, and seal edges.
  7. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter filling, add more sugar to the apple mixture.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
